BECOMING A MEMBER

Visit the SACCO prepared.

Four steps to prepare your first conversation with KUNGAHARA.

  1. Choose your purpose

Saving, education, working capital or a group: write down your goal and when you want to reach it.

  2. Confirm the requirements

Ask about membership eligibility, documents, shares and contributions. Request the checklist that applies to your situation.

  3. Understand what you will pay

Request written fees, minimum balances, withdrawal terms and agreements. Ask about anything unclear before signing.

  4. Arrange your visit

Give your sector, confirm the address, opening hours and the service you need. Ask about any assistance you may need during the visit.

Savings & accounts

Start with a goal you can follow.

01

Your goal & timing

Think about your goal, when you need the money and what you can set aside.

02

Requirements & costs

Ask about documents, membership contributions, minimum balances and deposit or withdrawal charges.

03

Access & interest

Confirm when you can access savings and how any interest is calculated.

Loans

A clear plan starts with the numbers.

01

Purpose

Prepare your project budget and identify the income that will cover repayments.

02

The full cost

Request the rate, calculation method, all charges and repayment schedule in writing.

03

SACCO review

A request prepared here is not loan approval. The SACCO carries out its own assessment and decision.

Groups & savings circles

Agree on the goal and the responsibilities.

01

Group agreement

Agree on contributions, representatives and authorised signatories.

02

Clear records

Keep membership, contribution and decision records.

03

Group service

Ask the SACCO which group accounts are available and what documents are required.

Business & farming

Plan around the rhythm of your income.

01

Income & expenses

Record expected sales, input costs and when cash will arrive.

02

Your budget

Separate household and business money and allow for unexpected costs.

03

Repayment timing

Ask whether available repayment options suit your harvest or sales cycle.

Deposits, withdrawals & other services

Before visiting, confirm the service point, opening hours, documents and charges. You can also ask how to obtain a statement or update your details.
